Jordan Sympathizes With Turkey Over Massive Forest Fires

4 people killed in forest fires in southern Turkey, 74 fires countywide brought under control so far, say authorities.

Jordan on Friday extended condolences to Turkey over the loss in lives in massive forest fires that is sweeping the country's southern regions.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expresses its deepest condolences and sympathy to the government and people of the brotherly Republic of Turkey for the victims of the forest fires that erupted in several provinces," said a statement by Daifallah al-Fayez, spokesman for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.

Al-Fayez expressed Jordan's solidarity with Turkey and wished quick recovery for the injured.

Since Wednesday, dozens of fires have erupted across Turkey, including in several provinces in the Mediterranean and Aegean coastal regions.

The country has managed to bring at least 74 of the forest fires raging across the country under control, while efforts continue to contain 11 others, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said on Friday.

The massive fires in southern Turkey have so far killed three people in Antalya on the Mediterranean coast and one in the Aegean province of Mugla, according to authorities.

The flames also erupted over the last few days in Turkey's southern provinces of Antalya, Mersin, Osmaniye, Adana, and Kahramanmaras, and central provinces of Kirikkale and Kayseri. -
