Jordan To Reopen Economy, Ease Lockdown From June 6

04.06.2020 16:56

Places of worship, cafes, restaurants, hotels to reopen while strictly adhering to social distancing.

Jordan will reopen all economic sectors, as well as ease the nationwide curfew imposed to stem the spread of COVID-19, starting Saturday, the minister of state for media affairs has said.

Amjad Adileh told a press conference on Thursday that Jordan was set to enter a moderate level of danger "as fewer than 10 coronavirus infections were daily recorded over the past seven days."

Citizens will be allowed to leave their homes from 6.00 a.m. until 12.00 p.m., and also travel between regions.

Nurseries, restaurants and cafes will open, provided they comply with health and preventive restrictions.

Clubs will also reopen and sporting events will resume but behind closed doors. Hotels, hostels and tourist sites will only be open to local tourists as domestic airline routes restart.

Mosques and churches will also open while adhering to rules determined by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Awqaf Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, as well as the council of churches.

Jordan imposed a nationwide curfew on March 18, before beginning a gradual reopening over the past two months.

The Hashemite Kingdom has so far registered 757 virus cases, including nine deaths and 560 recoveries.
