Spanish football giant Real Madrid has brought back Jose Mourinho, one of the most iconic managers in world football, to lead the team again.
THREE-YEAR DEAL WITH MOURINHO
Aiming for an absolute championship next season, the Spanish club signed a three-year official contract with the Portuguese coach, valid until June 2029.
PEREZ'S ELECTION MOVE
This operation, personally conducted by President Florentino Perez ahead of the presidential elections held on June 7 at Real Madrid, resulted in Mourinho standing out among strong alternatives such as Mauricio Pochettino and Massimiliano Allegri. The 63-year-old experienced manager, who decided to leave Benfica, turned down the Portuguese club's contract extension offers and headed to Spain. Real Madrid made the transfer official by paying the 15 million euro release clause in Mourinho's contract.
RETURN AFTER 13 YEARS
Jose Mourinho, who previously coached Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, etched his name into the club's history, especially with the record-point 2011-12 La Liga championship, breaking Barcelona's hegemony. Nicknamed "The Special One," Mourinho returns to the Santiago Bernabeu, where he became a legend, after exactly 13 years.
