New infections include 329 Kenyans, 27 foreigners, says Health Ministry.

Kenya confirmed 21 additional coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday and 356 new infections after doing 4,424 tests across the country, according to the Health Ministry.

The figures bring the number of fatalities to 2,928 and infections to 163,976, following 1.72 million tests since last year in the country of almost 55 million, according to the ministry.

"From the cases, 329 are Kenyans while 27 are foreigners," it tweeted.

Confirming 129 new recoveries Tuesday, it said recoveries now stand at 113,057.

On its ongoing vaccination campaign, the ministry announced that "a total of 921,546 persons have so far been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide. Of these, 281,704 are aged 58 years and above, Health workers, 161,271, Teachers 144,434, Security Officers 77,772 while 256,365 are in the Others category."

The ministry confirmed last Wednesday that it has seen five cases of the Indian variant of the virus.

Patrick Amoth, the ministry's acting director-general, told reporters that the cases involving Indian nationals were imported into the country last week before Kenya banned flights to and from India. -
