Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Athens whose resignation President Donald Trump demanded, announced that she has left her post. Guilfoyle, who came to prominence amid allegations of accepting gifts and demanding money in exchange for access to administration officials, said in her statement that her loyalty to Trump and the “America First” movement will continue.

U.S. Ambassador to Athens Kimberly Guilfoyle announced that she is leaving her post. Guilfoyle thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for giving her this assignment, while stating that she worked to strengthen the United States' relations with Greece and especially to improve cooperation in the energy field. Guilfoyle's departure came to the agenda after the White House announced that it had requested her resignation following allegations about her.

SHE THANKED TRUMP AND RUBIO

In a statement on her social media account, Guilfoyle thanked Trump and Rubio for enabling her to take on the ambassadorial post. Stating that from her first day in office she focused on strengthening relations between the U.S. and Greece, Guilfoyle drew attention especially to the cooperation steps taken in the energy field.

SHE DENIED THE ALLEGATIONS ABOUT HER

Touching also on the allegations about her that recently appeared in the press, Guilfoyle argued that the allegations in question were baseless. Stating that she devoted her professional life to ensuring justice, standing on the side of what is right, and protecting U.S. values, Guilfoyle said that her support for Trump would continue.

In her statement, Guilfoyle said, “Even though my ambassadorial post is coming to an end, my commitment to President Trump, the 'America First' movement, and this country that I love will never end.”

THE WHITE HOUSE HAD ASKED FOR HER RESIGNATION

White House spokesperson Katie Zacharia had announced that after the allegations that came to the agenda about Guilfoyle — “accepting gifts and demanding money in exchange for providing access to administration officials” — they had asked the ambassador to resign.

Zacharia had said, “We asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She was a wonderful person for the team, and we wish her the best of luck.”

U.S. President Donald Trump had also stated in a statement the day before that Guilfoyle could be removed from office.
