Suleyman Cetinkaya, the mayor of Dinar's Haydarli town, was attacked with a knife in front of his home. The mayor was not injured, but his son was wounded. AK Party condemned the attack.
Haydarlı district mayor Süleyman Çetinkaya, affiliated with the Dinar district of Afyonkarahisar, was attacked with a knife in front of his house. Mayor Çetinkaya was unharmed in the attack, while his son Yusuf Çetinkaya was injured during the scuffle. The AK Party Provincial Directorate condemned the attack.
HE WAS ABOUT TO ENTER HIS HOME
Süleyman Çetinkaya, the mayor of Haydarlı district in Dinar, was attacked with a knife by an individual while about to enter his home at around 7:00 PM on July 5. In the incident, which Mayor Çetinkaya survived without injury, his son Yusuf Çetinkaya, who was with him, was injured in the ensuing struggle. The attacker, whose identity was determined, was captured by the gendarmerie. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
"THIS DESPICABLE ATTACK IS UNACCEPTABLE"
In a statement from the AK Party Provincial Directorate regarding the incident, the attack was strongly condemned: "We vehemently condemn the heinous attack against our Haydarlı District Mayor Mr. Süleyman Çetinkaya. This despicable attack on a mayor who came to office through the votes of our nation is unacceptable. We have never stood beside an understanding that legitimizes violence, threats, and attacks, and we never will."
MAYOR UNHARMED, SON INJURED
The statement continued: "It is our greatest consolation that our District Mayor Mr. Süleyman Çetinkaya's health condition is good in the incident. We extend our well-wishes to his son Yusuf Çetinkaya, who was injured during the scuffle, and hope he recovers soon. Such attacks on elected officials fulfilling public duties are not only attacks on individuals but also on the nation's will and democratic life. No one is above the law. We have full faith that the incident will be fully clarified and the perpetrators will receive the necessary punishment before justice. As the Provincial Directorate, we once again state that we are against all kinds of violent acts targeting our unity and solidarity and aimed at disrupting social peace, and we extend our best wishes to our Mayor Mr. Süleyman Çetinkaya and his esteemed family."
