12.06.2021 18:57

Barbora Krejcikova beats Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 2 1 to clinch her maiden major singles title.

Czech Republic's Barbora Krejcikova secured the 2021 French Open (Roland Garros) title in women's, her first major singles championship.

Krejcikova, 25, beat Russian opponent Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 2-1 with sets of 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the final held in Paris' Court Philippe-Chatrier.

The 2021 final lasted for nearly two hours.

Krejcikova expressed her joy on the court for winning the 2021 title.

"I cannot believe what just happened. I cannot believe that I actually won a Grand Slam," Krejcikova said.

Krejcikova became the first Czech woman to win the French Open after Hana Mandlikova did it in 1981.

Mandlikova represented Czechoslovakia at that time.

In 1993, Czechoslovakia split into two nations; the Czech Republic and Slovakia. -
