Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine scored a game-high 30 points to help team USA beat out Team World 157-154 in Friday Night's Rising Stars Challenge in Toronto as part of the first ever NBA All-Star weekend to take place outside of United States.
LaVine outscored Minnesota teammate and last year's Rising Stars Challenge MVP, Andrew Winnings to win the award. Wiggins was playing on the opposing team and scored 29-points this year, seven more than his last year.
"He got it last year, I got it this year," said LaVine after the game. "We won this year, so I think it came down to whatever team won."
For Wiggins, a native of Toronto, this year's All-Star game was a homecoming for him.
"It felt great. I got to play in front of a lot of people I haven't seen in a long time," said Wiggins. "My family and friends got to watch it. It's great being back."
Minnesota also had a third participant in Karl-Anthony Towns, the number one pick in last year's draft and leading candidate for this season's Rookie of the Year award. Towns recorded 18 points and 7 rebounds for Team USA in the game.
The trio of LaVine, Wiggins and Towns provides Timberwolves with a bright future for the years to come.
LaVine will continue to showcase Minnesota's talent by trying to defend his Slam Dunk Contest title as part of State Farm All-Star Saturday night. (Cihan/Xinhua)
