It has been determined that LBank, a global cryptocurrency exchange for which the Capital Markets Board imposed an access restriction in December 2024, continues to produce content aimed at Turkish users through its Turkish social media accounts and to run an affiliate system via Turkish crypto influencers. Here are the details...
LBank was among the 108 crypto platforms for which the CMB issued an access block decision in December 2024 on the grounds of unauthorized activities. Under Law No. 7518, foreign platforms without a CMB license are explicitly prohibited from offering Turkish-language interfaces, conducting social media activities targeting Turkish users, and engaging in marketing activities. Despite more than six months having passed since the access block decision, it appears that LBank has not complied with this ban.
TURKISH SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITIES CONTINUE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION
It has been determined that the X account managed under the username LbankTurkey has been actively producing Turkish content even after the access block decision. The account continues to regularly publish announcements of new token listings, platform campaigns, prize trading competitions, and posts encouraging platform registration. Meanwhile, on Facebook, a page operating under the name "LBank Borsası Türkiye" with a location in Istanbul has been found to produce content on behalf of LBank for Turkish users and direct them to a Telegram group.
The profile description of the account includes the phrase "unofficial community." Experts note that the LbankTurkey account has a yellow verification tick indicating corporate verification and is directly connected to LBank Global, emphasizing that this designation does not remove legal responsibility. It is reminded that Law No. 7518 covers not only direct promotions but also marketing activities carried out "through individuals or institutions resident in Turkey."
INFLUENCERS CONTINUE TO DISTRIBUTE AFFILIATE LINKS
Investigations have revealed that multiple Turkish crypto influencers have made posts containing affiliate links belonging to LBank. It was determined that the accounts borsaressami and kuzisatoshini shared LBank affiliate links with their followers, and the account crypto_facts_ actively disseminated LBank content.
BOTH PLATFORM AND INFLUENCERS UNDER RISK OF SANCTIONS
Experts state that Law No. 7518 covers not only the platform but also all marketing and promotional activities conducted through individuals or institutions resident in Turkey. In this context, it is stated that influencers sharing affiliate links are also subject to sanctions along with the platform. The penalty for unauthorized crypto asset service provision is imprisonment from 3 to 5 years and a judicial fine of up to 10,000 days. Presenting paid content as organic content without indicating it is an advertisement independently violates the prohibition on misleading advertising.
