President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the 6th anniversary of the liberation of Karabakh from occupation, emphasizing that the victory won is a source of pride for the entire Turkic world.

According to a statement by the Azerbaijani Presidency, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan conveyed a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of November 8 Victory Day. In his letter, Erdoğan, celebrating the 6th anniversary of the victory that ended the 30-year Armenian occupation, stated that they are proud that the reconstruction and revival process of the liberated areas is progressing rapidly.

"THE SOUTH CAUCASUS IS NO LONGER A CONFLICT ZONE"

Drawing attention to the 'One nation, two states' understanding between Turkey and Azerbaijan, consolidated by the Shusha Declaration, Erdoğan emphasized regional stability in his letter and included the following statements: 'As a result of the efforts we carry out in coordination to establish permanent peace, tranquility, and stability in our region, the South Caucasus is now referred to not as a region of conflict and instability but as a region of cooperation and development. I wish God's mercy upon our heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the independence of their homeland, commemorate their precious memory with respect and reverence, and offer my gratitude to our veterans.'

KARABAKH VICTORY MARKS SIX YEARS

The Azerbaijani army had liberated 5 city centers, 4 towns, and 286 villages from Armenian occupation with the 44-day operation it launched on September 27, 2020. With Armenia accepting defeat, the provinces of Aghdam, Lachin, and Kalbajar were also returned to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had previously changed the date of Victory Day, initially set as November 10, to November 8, the day Shusha was liberated from occupation, because it coincided with the anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's death.
