STRUGGLE FOR LIFE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEA
According to the information obtained, the incident occurred off the coast of Fethiye. A fire broke out for an undetermined reason on the boat that was at sea for a tour. As the flames quickly grew, the 115 people on board panicked. As the fire spread, all 115 people, including children, put on their life jackets and jumped into the sea.
Upon the notification, Coast Guard teams and medical teams were dispatched to the region. While efforts were initiated to safely evacuate the passengers in the sea, some nearby boats also supported the rescue operations.
FLAMES ENGULFED THE ENTIRE BOAT
As the flames engulfed the entire boat, the tour boat began to burn. The fire caused damage to most of the boat, and it was later learned that the boat began to sink. While efforts continued to safely evacuate the passengers who jumped into the sea through the work of the teams, medical teams also conducted checks on the citizens brought ashore.
NO LOSS OF LIFE
According to initial determinations, there was no loss of life in the incident. Passengers affected by the fire or in need of medical attention due to their time spent in the sea were assessed by the teams.
DISTRICT GOVERNOR CAME TO THE SCENE
Fethiye District Governor Fatih Akkaya also went to the region after the incident and conducted inspections. Governor Akkaya stated that there was no loss of life in the incident and that it was learned that the passengers were safely evacuated with Coast Guard boats and other boats in the vicinity.
While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, an investigation has been initiated regarding the incident.
