As of July 1, three important implementations come into effect in Turkey. Through the Deposit Return System, citizens who return eligible beverage packaging will receive 1 TL back. While the processes for damage and loss of value in compulsory traffic insurance are being reorganized, displaying calorie and allergen information on menus will become mandatory in national chain restaurants.
As of July 1, three important applications that concern millions of citizens are being implemented in Turkey. While the Deposit Refund System is being activated, the scope of compulsory traffic insurance will be expanded, and a new era will begin for menus in restaurants and cafes.
DEPOSIT REFUND SYSTEM IS LAUNCHED
The Deposit Refund System, prepared to reduce environmental pollution and increase the recycling rate, will start to be implemented on July 1.
Within the scope of the system, deposit refund machines will be installed in 81 provinces and 973 districts across Turkey. Glass, plastic (PET), metal, and certain cardboard beverage packaging bearing the "Deposit Refund" logo will be included in the system.
Citizens can deliver suitable packaging to the machines and receive a deposit fee of 1 lira for each.
NEW REGULATION IN COMPULSORY TRAFFIC INSURANCE
With the regulation that will come into effect tomorrow, the processes of damage, compensation, and loss of value in compulsory traffic insurance will be reshaped.
The loss of value occurring in vehicles will be calculated by experts according to the principles determined by the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (IPPRSA). Vehicle owners who file a damage claim will not be required to submit a separate loss of value application.
Additionally, while prosthetic organs and necessary caregiver expenses are also included in the health expenses coverage, the calculation principles for disability and death compensations have been updated.
Insurance companies will now be able to carry out information and application processes through digital channels such as e-Government, mobile applications, e-mail, and SMS.
TRANSPARENCY PERIOD IN RESTAURANTS AND CAFES
A new application is also starting in the food and beverage sector. National chain restaurants will clearly share the calorie values and allergen information of the food and beverages they offer on their menus.
The regulation will first be mandatory for chain restaurants. Other restaurants will comply with the new system by December 31, 2026, and cafes by the end of 2027.
