In the trial regarding the armed brawl that broke out due to a debt issue in Aksu district of Antalya, resulting in one person's death, the verdict has been announced. The defendant, a former mayoral candidate, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional murder'.

The verdict has been announced in the case regarding the armed brawl that broke out over a debt issue in Aksu district of Antalya, resulting in the death of 70-year-old Hamit Sunbat. Former Aksu Municipality mayoral candidate and former high-ranking official in Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, Durmuş Ali Arslan, was sentenced to life imprisonment.

THE ARGUMENT ENDED BLOODY 

The incident occurred on April 18, 2025, at a workplace on Şahinler Street in Fatih Neighborhood. An argument broke out between the parties when Durmuş Ali Arslan went to the workplace to meet with Sebahattin Sunbat, to whom he was a creditor. As a result of gunfire opened during the argument, Sebahattin Sunbat's father, Hamit Sunbat (70), was seriously injured. Sunbat, who was taken to the hospital, lost his life 4 days later.

"I FIRED TO SCARE" DEFENSE 

Defendant Arslan, who made a defense at the verdict hearing, claimed that the incident was not planned and that he fired into the air to protect himself. Stating that he later realized the bullet had hit the victim, Arslan said, "I had no intent against Hamit Sunbat," and requested his acquittal.

The plaintiff's lawyers, arguing that the defendant came to the scene prepared, claimed that the action was planned. The side, stating that the defendant fired into a crowd in a closed environment, demanded the heaviest penalty.

LIFE IMPRISONMENT 

Antalya 5th High Criminal Court sentenced defendant Durmuş Ali Arslan to life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder" against Hamit Sunbat.

The court also ruled for a 10-year sentence for the crime of "attempted intentional murder" against Sebahattin Sunbat, an 18,000 TL judicial fine for the crime of "threat" against Tamer Ertürk, and a 2-year 6-month prison sentence and judicial fine for the crime of "possession of an unlicensed firearm."
