Man Dead Following Fatal Shooting In Scotland

11.08.2022 00:12

Police arrest male, 39, after shootings leave 3 injured.

A series of shooting in northern Scotland has left one man dead and three people injured on Wednesday, according to police reports.

Police Scotland arrested a male, 39, after a 47-year-old man was found dead on the Isle of Skye and a woman, 32 was injured nearby.

Authorities were alerted to two other shootings in the nearby area of Dornie where a male victim was flown to the hospital in Inverness and a female treated for injuries at the Broadford Community hospital in Skye.

"Incidents such as this are thankfully extremely rare but I understand that this will have a significant effect on the local community in these rural areas," said police commander Conrad Trickett. "I would like to reassure people that we are treating these incidents as contained, with no wider threat to the public."

The suspect who was arrested man was injured during the shootings and has been linked to all three shootings.

Police Scotland has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the shootings.

"There will be a significant police presence in the area over the coming days and we will be working with partners to provide support to the local community. I would like to thank people for their cooperation as our investigation progresses," said Trickett.

Initial reports said several emergency services, police vehicles, including an armed response unit, a police helicopter and a number of air and land ambulances were dispatched to the areas.

"This is dreadful and shocking news – especially for a place like Skye and Lochalsh. I have been kept informed of the events and I understand a firearm and knives were involved," said Ian Blackford, the MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber, and Westminster, who is the leader of the Scottish National party.

"I want to pay tribute to the emergency services, including the police and Scottish ambulance service, as well as the local authority. I understand the situation is under control," he added. -
