Mehmet Arabacı, who served at the Revenue Administration of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, was appointed to replace Erhan Çetinkaya, who had been leading TÜİK as its president since 2022. The new president Arabacı's longstanding career in finance and tax audit stood out.

A change of duty occurred at the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) with a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette. Mehmet Arabacı, the Deputy Head of the Revenue Administration, was appointed to replace Erhan Çetinkaya, who had been serving as the President of TÜİK since 2022.

With the decree published in the Official Gazette dated May 9, 2026, bearing the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Mehmet Arabacı officially became the President of TÜİK.

WHO IS MEHMET ARABACI?

Arabacı, born in 1977 in Bordeaux, France, graduated from the Department of Finance at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University in 2000.

After graduating, Arabacı passed the assistant account expert examination and served as an assistant account expert from 2001 to 2004, and as an account expert from 2004 to 2007.

In 2007, Arabacı was appointed as the Group Head of Human Resources at the Revenue Administration, a position he held until 2009. From 2009 to 2011, he completed his master's degree in economics at the University of Illinois in the United States.

ALSO SERVED ON THE TAX INSPECTION BOARD

Arabacı, who also conducted research, studies, and internships on "Transfer Pricing in Commercial Banks," was appointed in 2011 as the Group Head of Hidden Equity, Transfer Pricing, and Foreign Earnings in Ankara at the Tax Inspection Board, and in 2012 as the Deputy Head of the Tax Inspection Board.

Arabacı, who served as the Deputy Head of the Tax Inspection Board from 2012 to 2014, was appointed as the Head of Department at the Revenue Administration in 2014.

After serving as the Head of the Revenue Management Department at the Revenue Administration from 2014 to 2019, Arabacı was appointed as the Deputy Head of the Revenue Administration in 2019. Arabacı was continuing his duty as the Deputy Head of the Revenue Administration.
