MESAM: The claim that Ferdi Tayfur receives 35 million in royalties annually is absolutely unfounded.

Following the death of the important representative of Arabesque music, artist Ferdi Tayfur, the President of the Musicians' Rights Society (MESAM), Recep Ergül, made a statement regarding the claims that he received 35 million in royalties annually.

"FERDI TAYFUR IS ALWAYS IN THE TOP 20"

Stating that Ferdi Tayfur is a very important composer, MESAM President Ergül mentioned that the artist has around 350 works registered in the MESAM database. Ergül explained that Ferdi Tayfur has always been among the top 20 in terms of royalty income because he has gained the admiration of millions of people, saying, "Although there has been a significant increase in royalty revenues in recent years, no one in Turkey can reach the figures being mentioned. It is the most natural right of an artist who has produced this many works to receive any kind of royalties."

"THE NEWS IS UPSETTING HIS FAMILY WHO ARE STILL IN PAIN"

In his statement, President Ergül said, "Some media outlets and social media pages have reported that our valuable member, the late Ferdi Tayfur, received 35 million in royalties from our organization annually. This situation has upset his family, who are still in pain, and has been met with astonishment by our members who have works equivalent to Ferdi Tayfur's, leading them to justifiably expect that they should also receive such royalty amounts. These news reports are absolutely unfounded."

"THE FIGURES ARE ASTRONOMICAL AND NOT REALISTIC"

Ergül expressed that he foresees that there may be artists who could reach the claimed figure of 35 million TL within the next few years as a result of MESAM's dedicated efforts, stating, "We cannot share the royalty amounts our members receive under the KVKK, but I can say that the figures being mentioned are quite astronomical and not realistic."
