Hezbollah in Lebanon launched a heavy missile attack on Israel's north following the deaths of senior commanders Fuad Shukr and Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh.
After approximately 48 hours, sirens sounded in northern Israel, where rockets were fired for the first time from Lebanese territory. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a statement from the Israeli army, it was reported that sirens sounded in some areas in the north of the country due to rockets fired.
ISRAELI AIR DEFENSE SYSTEMS ACTIVATED
While no details were given about the attack, videos shared on social media showed Israeli air defense systems being activated in a region west of Galilee. Explosions were heard during the interception of rockets by the air defense system, but no information was provided by official authorities regarding casualties or material damage.
HEZBOLLAH CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ATTACK
Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released on its official Telegram account. The statement mentioned that dozens of Katyusha rockets were fired in retaliation for Israel's attack on the town of Shemaa in southern Lebanon. It was also stated that the illegal Israeli settlement of Matzuva was targeted. Lebanese media reported that the Israeli army launched artillery attacks on the towns of Ramya and Ayta al-Shaab in southern Lebanon.
ISRAEL STRIKES LEBANON DURING THE DAY
The official Lebanese news agency NNA reported that Israeli aircraft targeted a house in the town of Shemaa on the border of Lebanon in the afternoon. The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that 4 Syrian civilians were killed and 5 Lebanese civilians were injured in the attack.
ASSASSINATIONS OF ISMAIL HANIYEH AND FUAD SHUKR
In an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on July 30, Fuad Shukr, a senior commander of Hezbollah, was killed. Hours after this attack, Hamas leader Haniyeh was targeted in an assassination attempt in Tehran. Iran and Hamas have stated that Israel is behind the assassination attempt on Haniyeh, while the Tel Aviv government refrains from commenting on the matter.
