The murder of Fatma and İbrahim Teryaki, committed in 2016 in the Ürgüp district of Nevşehir, was solved 10 years later through a special effort by the Ministry of Justice. It was determined that the murder was carried out by individuals from within the family, and the suspects were arrested. Making a statement on the matter, Minister Gürlek said, 'In a state of law, no criminal will go unpunished.'
The murder of Fatma and İbrahim Teryaki, committed in 2016 in the Ürgüp district of Nevşehir, was solved after 10 years as a result of a special study conducted by the Ministry of Justice. Within the scope of the investigation, the suspects, determined to be from within the family, were arrested.
MINISTER GÜRLEK: JUSTICE DOES NOT BECOME STATUTE-BARRED
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, in his statement on the social media platform X, stated that efforts to solve unsolved cases continue with determination. In his post, Gürlek emphasized that they act with the principle of "Justice does not become statute-barred" and expressed that cases thought to have remained in the dark are being pursued decisively.
DOUBLE MURDER SOLVED AFTER 10 YEARS
Minister Gürlek announced that the case regarding Fatma and İbrahim Teryaki, a couple killed in Mazı Village in the Ürgüp district of Nevşehir in 2016, was re-examined. Stating that the investigation, carried out under the coordination of the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department established within the Ministry of Justice, was conducted meticulously, Gürlek said the incident was clarified in all its aspects.
THEY TRIED TO DIVERT ATTENTION
It was announced that, as a result of comprehensive examinations, it was determined that the murder was committed by individuals from within the family. Minister Gürlek stated that it was revealed that the suspects had tried to divert the investigation in different directions in the past and made attempts to manipulate the judicial process. It was reported that the real perpetrator or perpetrators were arrested based on the evidence obtained and statements taken within the scope of the investigation.
“NO CRIMINAL WILL GO UNPUNISHED”
In his statement, Akın Gürlek thanked the Nevşehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which conducted the investigation, the Nevşehir Provincial Gendarmerie Command, and all personnel involved in the process. Gürlek emphasized that, in accordance with the principle of the rule of law, no criminal will go unpunished.
Minister Gürlek's statement is as follows;
"The determined will of our government under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to solve unsolved case files continues to yield results. Our judiciary, acting with the principle of 'Justice does not become statute-barred,' is decisively pursuing incidents thought to have remained in the dark.
In this context, the murder in which Fatma and İbrahim Teryaki lost their lives in 2016 in Nevşehir Ürgüp Mazı Village was re-examined with the coordination provided by the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department established within our Ministry; as a result of the meticulous and multi-faceted investigation conducted, this murder was fully clarified after 10 years.
As a result of the comprehensive studies carried out; it was determined that the incident was committed by individuals from within the family, and it was revealed that the suspects had tried to divert attention in different directions in the past and attempted to manipulate the judicial process. In line with the confessions obtained and the evidence gathered in the investigation, the real perpetrator of the murder was arrested.
I thank our Nevşehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which conducted this long-term process with great care and dedication, our Nevşehir Provincial Gendarmerie Command, which fulfilled its judicial police duties completely, and all our colleagues involved in the investigation.
We will not allow any crime to remain in the dark, and we will continue to mobilize all our resources to uncover the material truth and ensure justice, no matter how much time passes. In a state governed by the rule of law, no criminal will go unpunished."
