After the local elections on March 31, the discussion regarding the debts of municipalities has flared up again. Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan announced that seizure procedures will begin for municipalities that do not pay their debts. "MUNICIPALITIES THAT PAY THE LEAST OF THEIR DEBTS ARE CHP-LED"In his statement, Minister Işıkhan used the following expressions: "The debt of municipalities has risen from 96 billion lira to 150 billion lira, and this has become unsustainable. We call on all municipalities; pay your debts. We will initiate seizure procedures against municipalities that do not make any attempts. The municipalities that pay the least of their debts are CHP-led municipalities. The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has a debt of 8.5 billion lira to SGK, which was 209 million when it was taken over from Melih Bey." he said. MINIMUM WAGE DEBATEMeanwhile, a debate occurred during the budget discussions of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security in the TBMM Planning and Budget Commission when opposition deputies opened banners regarding the minimum wage. In addition to the ministry's budget for 2025, the budget, final accounts, and Court of Accounts reports of the Vocational Qualifications Authority, as well as the Court of Accounts report of the Social Security Institution and the General Directorate of the Turkish Employment Agency, began to be discussed. The meeting continued with the speeches of the commission member deputies following the presentation of Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan. During the speeches, a debate broke out when opposition deputies in the commission opened banners stating 'Our demand for the minimum wage is 30, we will not accept anything below that.'
