According to information obtained by AA correspondent, Şimşek will first participate in the Joint Working Group Meeting to discuss the alignment of the Middle Corridor Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative on November 6 in the context of his official contacts in Beijing.
The "Memorandum of Understanding on the Alignment of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road with the Middle Corridor Initiative" was signed in Antalya in 2015. Within this framework, the first meeting of the Joint Working Group, as envisaged in the memorandum, will be held. In addition to the alignment of the two initiatives, cooperation in the fields of air and land transportation, green transformation, energy, industry, and investments, as well as commercial and economic issues, will be discussed at the meeting. THE MEETING WILL BE CO-CHAIRMANED BY ŞİMŞEKŞimşek will participate in the Second Meeting of the Turkey-China HIK, which is the highest-level consultation mechanism between the two countries, on November 7 as part of his official contacts. The committee is co-chaired by Minister Şimşek and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing. Senior representatives from the relevant ministries of both countries will also be present at the meeting. Established by the memorandum signed in Beijing in 2015, the committee carries out tasks such as determining priority areas for cooperation, comprehensively evaluating cooperation in politics, economy, trade, energy, transportation, security, culture, tourism, and other areas, and improving communication between the two countries. The committee, which held its first meeting on November 4, 2016, in Ankara, will convene for the first time in eight years. The meeting is significant as it takes place before the BRICS Summit held last month and the G20 Summit scheduled for this month. It is anticipated that consultations regarding Turkey-China bilateral relations and exchanges of views on regional and international issues will take place during the committee meeting.
HE WILL ALSO MEET WITH CHINESE FINANCE AND INVESTMENT COMPANIESAs part of his contacts in Beijing, Minister Şimşek will also hold bilateral meetings. He will meet with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Jin Liqun, and will come together with senior executives of Chinese finance and investment companies, including ICBC and Bank of China. In Şimşek's meetings, it is expected that bilateral relations will be comprehensively addressed and exchanges of views on regional and global issues will take place.
The economic and trade relations between the two countries also hold significant importance in the discussions. The bilateral trade volume exceeded 48 billion dollars in 2023, with China being Turkey's largest trading partner in Asia and the third largest in the world.
In the meetings, opportunities for cooperation regarding investments from China to Turkey, as well as making bilateral trade more balanced and sustainable, will also be discussed.
