Minister Uraloğlu's Statement on 'Internet Prices'

Minister Uraloğlu's Statement on 'Internet Prices'

09.10.2024 14:33

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, made important statements regarding the rising internet bills. Uraloğlu stated that internet prices are shaped according to the free market and that they do not have the authority to intervene.

Recently, complaints about 'high bills' have increased both for GSM companies and internet providers. Citizens sharing their bills on social media reacted to the figures.

Evaluating the issue, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the prices are a result of free market effects. Speaking before the parliamentary group meeting, Uraloğlu said the following about internet prices: Internet bills are completely a free market. This is a situation that arises from the renewal of one-year and two-year subscriptions. We do not have regulatory authority here. It is the competition of the free market.

"TARIFFS ARE ADJUSTED ACCORDING TO INFLATION"

Our citizens can find themselves facing a package that is much higher than the campaign they initially signed up for after joining with a certain campaign. In that sense, companies have started to organize certain campaigns again. However, our observation is that the regulation here is based on inflation, decisions made according to TEFE-TÜFE. However, there is no intervention from our side.

BILLS REACH 600-700 LIRAS

It is necessary to look at the subscription scope regarding these bills. Which package has transitioned to which. If the tariff changes in a two-year subscription, it is necessary to look at the difference in between. It would not be correct to evaluate based on the bill.

I updated the address. After that, they requested an additional payment. However, I used a virtual card to make the extra payment. The limit on the virtual card was very low, so they couldn't withdraw any money from there. If I had used my regular card, they probably could have withdrawn at least 100,000 to 150,000 lira. I managed to avoid this issue thanks to that virtual card application."
