Minister Uraloğlu: There is a very strange satisfaction that we closed Discord.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, stated that the access restriction imposed on the written and visual messaging platform Discord, which has recently come to the fore due to crimes such as blackmail, pedophilia, and sexual abuse targeting children and young people, as well as its role in spreading deviant trends, has been positively received by citizens.

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced last night that access to the social media platform named Discord has been restricted from Turkey.

In his evaluations regarding the issue, Minister Uraloğlu said: "We imposed the access restriction with the decision of the Ankara 1st Criminal Court of Peace. This is a completely closed system. Our security units cannot conduct any inquiries there. We can intervene regarding the complaints of those using it. If the incidents we have experienced in the last few days had not occurred, we might have been accused of a prohibitive mentality for imposing the access restriction today."

When these incidents occurred, everyone wanted it to be closed. At that time, we need to act together with all segments of society, especially families. Since Discord refused to share its information, including IP addresses and content, with our security units, we imposed the access restriction.

There is a very strange satisfaction that we closed Discord. If we had closed it a week ago, this satisfaction probably would not have existed. Therefore, the information sharing with us is truly valuable. We are taking the necessary actions based on the complaints received."
