DISCORD IS REOPENING FOR ACCESS
Minister Uraloglu announced that the social media platform Discord, which has been under access restrictions since October 2024, will be reopened soon.
Stating that Turkey's red lines regarding security and content have been accepted by the platform, Uraloglu said, "Discord now meets our criteria. They have reached the criteria Turkey demands, especially regarding content removal."
"WE WILL OPEN IT AFTER SOME TIME"
Referring to the details of the process, Minister Uraloglu emphasized that they are working in coordination with relevant ministries and institutions, stating, "We are discussing opening it after some time. We will likely open it after some time."
WHY WAS IT CLOSED?
Public reactions and legal debates regarding Discord intensified in 2024 after claims emerged that some servers on the platform involved child exploitation, sharing of obscene content, and various criminal activities.
Following these developments, in coordination with police units and the prosecutor's office, suspicious servers and groups were closely monitored, and a comprehensive investigation was launched. Evaluating the findings obtained from the investigations, the Ankara 1st Criminal Court of Peace ordered the blocking of access to the platform on October 9, 2024.
The judicial decision was quickly implemented by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), and access to the platform from Turkey was completely shut down.
