Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the number of Syrians in Turkey during the ongoing budget discussions in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Planning and Budget Commission. Minister Yerlikaya stated that the number of Syrians under temporary protection has decreased to 2 million 935 thousand 742 after address investigations. "WE HAVE DEACTIVATED THE FOREIGN ID NUMBERS OF THOSE WHO HAVE NOT UPDATED THEIR ADDRESSES"In his statement regarding the issue, Yerlikaya used the following expressions: It was determined that the addresses of 731 thousand 146 Syrians under temporary protection were not up to date. They were given a 90-day period to update their addresses. During this period, information was provided via SMS in Turkish and Arabic. We have deactivated the foreign ID numbers of Syrians who did not update their addresses. Since July 19, 2023, in our Mobile Migration Points Vehicles: identity checks have been conducted for 2 million 28 thousand 462 foreigners. In these inquiries, 150 thousand 935 irregular migrants were detected. After the address investigations, the number of Syrians under temporary protection has decreased to 2 million 935 thousand 742.
