The statements made by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı regarding hemp production, which is supported by President Erdoğan due to its high added value and use as a raw material in industry, have drawn criticism. Minister Yumaklı responded to farmers in Konya who were seeking support for production by saying, "You planted hemp, what are you going to do with it?"

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı met with farmers in Konya, the capital of agricultural production, as part of the 'Turkey Meetings' program.

FARMER ASKED MINISTER YUMAKLI FOR SUPPORT BUT...

During the meeting, Ahmet Bestil, the President of the Konya Beet and Agricultural Products Producers Association, stated that hemp production has started in Konya upon the instruction of President Erdoğan and requested support from Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı. However, Bestil could not find the support he expected from Minister Yumaklı regarding hemp production.

"YOU PLANTED HEMP, WHAT WILL YOU DO?"

Interrupting the farmer, Minister Yumaklı asked, "You planted hemp, what will you do?" These words from Minister Yumaklı, who opposes hemp production, which is used as a raw material by the industry and has high added value, quickly resonated on social media.

"I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I HEARD THE QUESTION"

In evaluations after the incident, Konpader President Ahmet Bestil stated, "I said we got permission from our President for hemp cultivation. The Minister said to me, 'I can't stand it.' I thought he would be pleased with my statements. It was the opposite, and I faced a different reaction. I was literally shocked. I was shocked when I heard the question, 'What will we do with the hemp?' After this conversation, we debated with the minister for another 5 minutes. When the discussion happened, the person recording stopped the video," he expressed.

ERDOĞAN HAD SUPPORTED IT

President Erdoğan, in a previous speech regarding the resumption of hemp production, said, "Enemies that seem friendly to us took hemp production from my country. We are importing hemp. If there are things that need to be done based on hemp, they are being done with imported products. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is starting work on this issue. Someone had to start this job. Right now, we are also working on it."

PERMISSION FOR PRODUCTION HAD BEEN GRANTED

Necessary permissions for hemp production had also been granted in Konya. This year, for the first time after a long break, hemp cultivation was carried out on 20 decares of land in the Konya/Çumra district.
