Minister Yumaklı: Those who caused the fires in Çeşme and Menderes are under arrest, we will impose severe sanctions.

The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, stated that the forest fires in Selçuk, Menderes, and Çeşme in İzmir have been brought under control.

"ALL 3 FIRES ARE UNDER CONTROL"

Minister Yumaklı, at the crisis center for the fires in Selçuk, İzmir, told journalists that intervention was carried out during the night for the forest fires in Selçuk and Menderes districts of İzmir and Susurluk district of Balıkesir, which started yesterday, and said, "I would like to say that all three of our fires are currently under control."

"ÇEŞME FIRE STARTED FROM A CIGARETTE BUTT, UNFORTUNATELY"

Minister Yumaklı, stating that the causes of the fires are still being investigated by the governorship and law enforcement forces, said, "We had stated that the Menderes fire started in a hobby garden, and the relevant individuals are in custody. Yesterday, there were also 6 fires in the risk group in İzmir, one of which was in Çeşme. Unfortunately, the Çeşme fire started from a cigarette butt. This person is also in custody.

"THEY WILL FACE SEVERE PENALTIES"

I want to emphasize from here that those who cause a forest fire or any fire that will cause damage, whether consciously or unconsciously, through mistake or negligence, will face severe penalties. There is no remedy for this issue. It can lead to consequences such as loss of life and property. There is intense struggle to prevent these." he said.
