More than 200 kilograms (441 pounds) of marijuana and 50 kilograms (110 pounds) of heroin have been seized during anti-drug operations across Turkey, a ministry statement and a police source said Friday.
In southern Adana province, 217 kilograms (478 pounds) of marijuana was seized, a police source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.
In a written statement, Ministry of Customs and Trade also said customs guards launched an operation following a tip-off at the Habur border gate between southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq.
The guards confiscated more than 50 kilograms (110 pounds) of heroin from a lorry they stopped at the gate; three suspects were also held.
In another operation in northwestern Balikesir province, anti-narcotics teams seized more than 500 ecstasy pills, according to a provincial governor's office written statement.
In central Konya province, security forces detained four university students suspected of growing marijuana in their house located in Selcuklu district of Konya after finding a heater, fan and a lighting system in a cabinet drawer. Additionally, 50 grams of ready-to-sell marijuana was seized from the house. -
