Moroccan King Mohamed VI has refused to accept a phone call from Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a Friday statement, Morocco's Foreign Ministry said King Mohamed "found it inappropriate to accept [the call] as it is linked to an important election in this country [Nigeria]."
According to the ministry, the call "appeared to be an attempt to woo Muslim voters in [Nigeria] as opposed to a normal diplomatic call."
On March 28, Nigeria is slated to hold presidential and parliamentary elections.
Although 14 candidates will contest presidency, the poll is largely seen as a race between Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler.
