Another one has been added to the metropolitan municipality mayors who resigned from the CHP. Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras announced that he resigned from the CHP. It drew attention that Aras also included in his resignation post a screenshot showing that he terminated his political party membership via e-Government.
My dear fellow citizens,
I assumed the office of Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality under the roof of the Republican People's Party, with your trust and support. I will always respectfully carry the contribution of all my comrades who walked shoulder to shoulder with me and labored on this path; the value of the struggle we waged together, the friendships we formed, and our shared labor.
Today, Muğla's agenda includes important issues awaiting solutions, services awaiting implementation, and major responsibilities that will shape our future. However, for some time I have seen that political debates conducted over my person have overshadowed the work we do for our city. I believe these debates do not contribute anything to Muğla and its residents.
As of today, I have decided to resign from my membership in the Republican People's Party and continue my duty as Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality as an independent.
At the basis of my decision lies the understanding of continuing my responsibility toward Muğla in line with the will of our people and the needs of our city.
Being a mayor requires being the mayor of everyone without discrimination. As I have done until today, from now on too, I will continue to approach every fellow resident with the same sincerity, regardless of political view, lifestyle, or place of residence, and to deliver services justly to all districts and neighborhoods of Muğla.
The measure of our understanding of service will not change: We will work for strong infrastructure, safe transportation, protected nature, supported producers, a society strengthened by solidarity, and a livable Muğla we will leave to our children.
We will cooperate with the central government, public institutions, political parties, our district municipalities, professional chambers, and civil society organizations on every issue that benefits Muğla. We will be open to every sincere step for the benefit of our city and will meet on common ground with everyone who wants to produce solutions.
This decision is not a denial of our past. My respect for the labor given together, the friendships formed, and the shared struggle will always continue. At the same time, this decision is a requirement of the responsibility I bear for Muğla's present and future.
Just as in the decision I made today, in the responsibilities I will assume tomorrow, I will base myself on the trust and consent of our people. The appreciation of my fellow Muğlans and the priorities of our city will guide my path.
My side is Muğla. My priority is the peace, prosperity, and future of my fellow residents and our city.
I will continue to work for Muğla and to walk together with our people with the same faith and determination.
