Former CHP Chairman Murat Karayalçın argued that the CHP has been drawn into a major trap following the absolute nullity decision, stating that the solution to the crisis lies in a congress. Calling for unity among all factions within the party, Karayalçın emphasized that the congress should not be delayed and that this process can be overcome through solidarity.
Former CHP Chairman Murat Karayalçın evaluated the debates within the party following the absolute nullity decision against CHP in a post on his social media account.
Karayalçın used the following statements in his statement: "A very big trap was set for the Republican People's Party. This last event, the Regional Court of Appeal's absolute nullity decision on May 21, is the final step of this trap. We are experiencing other shocks and negativities brought by this final step. The rights of our Chairman Özgür Özel and the executives of the Republican People's Party have been usurped. Republican People's Party members have been pushed into a trap, a pit. Unfortunately, the efforts and initiatives of our friends to seek our rights are not yielding results. The judicial bodies that should decide on this, the high judicial bodies, unfortunately do not make decisions, they stay away, they pass the buck to someone else."
"IT'S UP TO US, WE WILL SOLVE THIS"
Karayalçın argued that state institutions and the judiciary have not taken sufficient responsibility in the process, saying: "There cannot be such a state administration. The President says, 'This is not our business, this is the business of CHP members.' The Speaker of the Parliament similarly says, 'It is CHP members' own problem.' So we are in an environment where neither judicial bodies nor state administrators show interest or effort regarding our situation, our usurped rights. It's up to us. Now, as Republican People's Party members, I say this without any distinction; we must solve this, we will solve this. The solution to this matter is the congress. There is no other way. In all political parties, wherever democracy exists, decisions are made by members. The decision made by members or delegates is valid, not judicial decisions."
"IF THERE IS PURIFICATION, DOCUMENTS SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE JUDICIARY"
Referring to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's view of "first purification, then congress," Karayalçın made the following assessment: "Now, the appointed administration has some evaluations, I understand that too. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu mentions purification. Of course, if there is something that needs to be purified, it should be purified and revealed. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu says, 'first purification, first accountability, purification must happen, then the congress should be held.' Now, if there is something to purify, it should be revealed. I am not of the opinion that the Republican People's Party is in a state of corruption, but if there are such individuals within the party, Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu should submit his information and documents to the judiciary. One process should proceed, and the congress should be held simultaneously; both should happen together. In other words, you cannot say, 'First I will hold accountable, first I will purify, then we will hold the congress.'"
"THE INJUNCTION IS NOT AN OBSTACLE TO THE CONGRESS"
Opposing the views that the congress cannot be held, Karayalçın recalled the statements of CHP Party Spokesperson Zeynel Emre, saying: "The evaluations that the congress cannot be held are not correct evaluations. They say, 'An injunction was issued, therefore we cannot make a decision for the congress.' Our Party Spokesperson Mr. Zeynel Emre explained this. Mr. Zeynel Emre says; despite the injunction, the Istanbul Provincial Congress was held. The Supreme Election Council did this. Similarly, despite the injunction now, we can do this, we are able to do it. There is no obstacle here. But if you think it is an obstacle, then withdraw the appeal, so we finalize it. Thus, there would be no injunction either. Let's go to the congress immediately."
"THERE IS A RISK OF NOT PARTICIPATING IN ELECTIONS"
Karayalçın stated that if the congress is delayed, risks may arise regarding CHP's participation in elections, using the following expressions: "Mr. Zeynel Emre added another view, which I also consider important. If the congress cannot be held by July 25, there is a possibility that the Republican People's Party may not enter the elections. Therefore, we must hold the congress urgently."
"SUCH A TRAP WAS SET FOR US"
Calling for unity among all factions within the party, Karayalçın concluded his statement with these words: "Ultimately, there is nothing to hide from each other. We are CHP members, we are brothers. I do not make a distinction between those in the headquarters and those not. We must come together, we must solve this. Such a trap was set for us. We can get out of this trap through solidarity, by holding onto each other. I say this to everyone. I ask everyone to think about this as well. As a former chairman, as a party member, as a Republican People's Party member, I believe our way out will be like this."
