The Women's Solidarity Committees reacted to the words of theologian Prof. Dr. Mustafa Karataş, who said, "The punishment for adultery is death. If one escapes punishment in this world, they will face a punishment similar to the death penalty in the hereafter." The KDK stated, "While women are dying every day, a faculty member comes out and declares that the punishment for adultery is death. Get out of here!"

Theolog Mustafa Karataş stated in a television program he participated in, "The person who commits adultery should know that I need to be killed. I was not killed here; the laws are not like that. I found something according to my own understanding, according to the law. I misled people and escaped punishment," and added that he would face a punishment similar to a death penalty in the afterlife. Karataş's statements were met with a strong reaction from the Women's Solidarity Committees (KDK).

"WHILE WOMEN DIE EVERY DAY, 'THE PUNISHMENT FOR ADULTERY IS DEATH' HE SAYS"

KDK made a video statement on their social media account, tagging the institutional accounts of the Radio and Television Supreme Council, the Higher Education Council, and Istanbul University, and shared the following:

"State institutions that are complicit in the crime by not taking any steps to prevent femicides remained silent against the scandalous statements made by the reactionary professor in the program aired on October 21, where he said, 'The person who commits adultery should know that I need to be killed. I was not killed here; the laws are not like that. I found something according to my own understanding, according to the law. I misled people and escaped punishment,' which supports the murder of women.

While women die every day, a faculty member comes out and declares that the punishment for adultery is death. If they were not killed in this world because the laws do not allow it, let them face the death of the adulterer in the afterlife. Get out of here! What will you do about those who issue new decrees while women are face to face with death every day?"

Criticizing the Ministry of Interior and other relevant institutions regarding the increasing femicides and violence against women in Turkey, KDK had previously issued a statement in May titled "For every woman who dies, we have two hands on your collar: You are guilty, Minister of Interior."
