The bill that includes increasing the minimum pension to 23,552 lira and various economic regulations has begun to be discussed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Plan and Budget Commission. With the regulation, which directly concerns approximately 5.1 million retirees, the minimum pension will rise to 500 dollars in dollar terms.
The legal proposal to raise the minimum pension to 23,552 lira has started being discussed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Planning and Budget Committee.
In the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Planning and Budget Committee, convened under the chairmanship of AK Party Samsun Deputy Mehmet Muş, discussions began on the "Draft Law Amending Certain Laws and Decrees with the Force of Law," which includes raising the minimum pension to 23,552 lira and economic regulations.
17.76 PERCENT INFLATION RATE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT
One of the sponsors of the proposal, AK Party Samsun Deputy Ersan Aksu, gave a presentation to the committee regarding the regulation. Stating that they are taking measures to protect all segments of society, Aksu explained the details of the regulation with these words: "With this regulation, which closely concerns our retirees and beneficiaries, we are raising the current minimum monthly payment amount of 20 thousand Turkish lira to 23 thousand 552 Turkish lira, taking into account the 17.76 percent inflation rate announced by TÜİK for the first 6 months of 2026."
12.5-FOLD INCREASE IN DOLLAR TERMS
Sharing a comparison of the increase with past years, Deputy Ersan Aksu drew attention to the real growth in pension payments and noted: "The minimum pension, which was 40 dollars in 2022, rises to 500 dollars with this regulation. This table shows that, inflation-adjusted, there has been a real increase of exactly 5.5 times since 2022, and an increase of 12.5 times in dollar terms. Approximately 5.1 million of our retirees will directly benefit from this regulation."
Discussions on the legal proposal in the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Planning and Budget Committee continue.
