Nets Coach Nash 'Excited' To Incorporate New Signings Into Team

11.02.2022 22:57

Nets General Manager Sean Marks says trading James Harden was difficult decision.

The Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash is "excited" to rebuild the squad and incorporate new players into the team following the signing of Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and Andre Drummond at the 2022 NBA trade deadline.

"Excited to incorporate these guys into our group," Steve Nash said on the big trade after the Nets' 113-112 loss to the Washington Wizards on late Thursday.

"I think they fill needs for us. It should be an exciting time for us to reset and rebuild and to hopefully put together a really competitive and terrific team in a short period of time here."

Ben Simmons was selected the No. 1 overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016 as the 25-year-old power forward has averaged 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game so far.

A three-time All-Star was named the Rookie of the Year for the 2017-18 season.

"I think that's his gift is that he's an incredibly athletic defender who is a creative passer, incredible in transition and can also playmake out of pick and roll as a roller. I think he can be dynamic for us in a lot of ways. I think he fits our group really well and I think it's really exciting to take on such a talented player who's ready to enter the second stage of his career and hopefully we can help him take a jump," Nash said on Simmons' arrival.

The 31-year-old Seth Curry has a good form this season, averaging a career-high 15.0 points per game.

"Seth obviously has turned into a terrific NBA player," Nash said.

"He's an elite shooter, catch-and-shoot off the bounce, he's crafty and he's incredibly efficient."

A two-time All-Star Andre Drummond averaged 13.9 points while shooting 53.8 percent during his 10 seasons in NBA.

"We want to try to build and reach for the stars and try to have a sense of urgency with this new addition," Nash added.

Nets General Manager Sean Marks said trading James Harden was a difficult decision.

"However, after recent discussions with him and his representatives we felt that this move would be best for all involved, as it better positions us to achieve our goals this season and in the years ahead," he said.

Harden, who is a 10-time All-Star, averaged 22.5 points, 8 rebounds and 10.2 assists in 44 matches this season.

The 32-year-old guard helped team USA win gold at the 2012 London Olympics and 2014 FIBA World Cup.

The Philadelphia 76ers sent Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, Ben Simmons and two first-round picks to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for James Harden and Paul Millsap. -
