In the explosion in the Torbalı district of Izmir, where 5 people died and 63 people were injured, it was learned that the detained M.K., who changed the cylinder one day before the incident, did not have an authorization certificate for cylinder replacement.

NEW DETAILS IN THE EXPLOSION THAT KILLED 5 PEOPLE

According to the information obtained within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Torbalı Public Prosecutor's Office, the restaurant where the explosion occurred was opened by the arrested business owner G.K. with his son in August last year. The woman continued to run the restaurant alone after her son started another job 4 months later.

PERMIT APPLICATION OF THE BUSINESS IS UNDER EVALUATION

It was reported that a complaint was received in May about the business being "unlicensed", and it was learned that the business had applied for a license and the matter was under evaluation by the municipality. It was noted that M.K., who changed the cylinder one day before the explosion, stated in his statement that he had been doing this job in Torbalı for years and checked for gas leaks.

NO AUTHORIZATION CERTIFICATE FOR CYLINDER REPLACEMENT

It was stated that M.K. did not have an authorization certificate for cylinder replacement. According to the statements of the restaurant owner G.K. in the investigation file, he said that "the cylinder was changed on Saturday afternoon and the business was open until 02.00 at night." The initial evaluation made in accordance with the statements and information obtained within the scope of the investigation indicated that the restaurant served its customers for 12 hours after the cylinder was installed, the gas leaked from the cylinder filled the closed business with shutters, and the explosion occurred as a result of this.

AWAITING EXPERT REPORT

In the expert report to be prepared regarding the incident, it will be investigated whether there is an alarm system for opening and closing gas in the restaurant, whether the cylinder is located in a closed area, whether the ventilation is sufficient, and the suitability of using an industrial type cylinder in the establishment.

It was emphasized that with the explosion, the shutter of the business also flew over the people passing in front of the restaurant. On the other hand, it was understood that the arrested suspects did not have any criminal records.
