No news from missing Turkish guide in Nepal for 3 days

After the flood disaster in Nepal, no news has been received from Turkish tour guide Elena Öksüz, who was in the region, since August 26. It was reported that Öksüz, who was learned to be a dual citizen, entered Nepal with a Russian passport, and efforts continue to detect her last phone signal.

UNABLE TO REACH HER SINCE AUGUST 26

Selçuk Eracun, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Guides Executive Board, stated that Öksüz was in the disaster zone in northern Nepal to participate in tourist activities with a group.

According to information provided by Eracun, Öksüz left her hotel on August 26 and has not been heard from since. It was noted that local authorities are continuing search efforts to find the missing guide.

ENTERED NEPAL WITH A RUSSIAN PASSPORT

It was learned that Elena Öksüz, who holds dual citizenship, entered Nepal with a Russian passport. Therefore, it was stated that information about a Turkish citizen being in the region was not initially available.

Eracun reported that with Russia's statement on August 27, the information that Öksüz could not be reached and was missing was confirmed, adding that Turkey's Embassy in New Delhi and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have also been informed about the matter.

LAST PHONE SIGNAL UNDER INVESTIGATION

It was stated that efforts are being made to access data regarding Öksüz's last phone signal. It was also reported that information obtained from Öksüz's daughter and ex-husband is being evaluated in the search efforts.

Eracun, noting that local teams are continuing their work in the region, stated that they hope to reach Elena Öksüz as soon as possible.

SERVED IN ADIYAMAN AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE

It was also learned that Elena Öksüz went to Adıyaman after the February 6, 2023 earthquakes and worked as an interpreter for search and rescue teams.
