Security camera footage has emerged regarding the killing of former police officer Ergün Karakaya in Adana, who was fatally shot during an armed fight that broke out at a car rental office he went to discuss a debt matter. The first hearing of the case, in which 9 defendants are being tried under arrest in connection with the incident where Karakaya lost his life after learning that the workplace he had taken over for his debt was mortgaged, was held at the Adana Heavy Penal Court.
New footage has emerged regarding the attack in which former police officer and restaurant owner Ergün Karakaya was killed at a car rental shop in Adana, which he visited over a debt matter. In the case initiated after the armed brawl at the business named "Sıfır Bir Rent A Car," 9 defendants are being tried in custody.
THE SHOP TRANSFERRED FOR THE DEBT TURNED OUT TO BE MORTGAGED
The incident occurred on April 5 at the business named "Sıfır Bir Rent A Car" operating in the Seyhan district. According to the claim, former police officer and restaurant owner Ergün Karakaya (40) learned that the business, which Fırat Bozkır, to whom he was a creditor, had transferred to cover his debt, was mortgaged. Upon this, he went to Bozkır's workplace with his brother Eray Karakaya and his cousin Tuğrul Karakaya to discuss the situation.
THE FIGHT ESCALATED IN AN INSTANT
The argument that started between the parties quickly turned into a fight. According to the claim, about 12 relatives of Fırat Bozkır also joined the brawl. During the scuffle, former police officer Ergün Karakaya was shot in the chest with a pistol. Karakaya, who was seriously injured, died in the hospital where he was taken, while his brother and cousin were also beaten. Those moments were captured second by second on the business's security cameras.
THEY WERE CAUGHT ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE FLEEING
In the investigation launched after the murder, police teams determined that Şaban Bozkurttan, who allegedly fired the shots, and Fırat Bozkır were preparing to flee abroad. The two suspects were caught in an operation on the highway while heading towards Gaziantep.
Within the scope of the investigation, 9 of the 16 suspects detained, including Şaban Bozkurttan and Fırat Bozkır, were arrested, while 7 people were released under judicial control.
THE TRIAL HAS BEGUN
In the trial that has started to be heard at the Adana Heavy Penal Court, the detained defendants appeared before the judge. While the trial of the defendants continues for intentional homicide and other related offenses, the newly emerged security camera footage has been included in the case file as evidence.
The footage shows the parties arguing in front of the business, many people joining the fight shortly after, and great panic following the sound of gunshots. The trial will continue in the upcoming hearings with the testimony of witnesses and the evaluation of evidence.
