Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş made notable statements regarding the legal reports concerning the CHP and the party congress process. Kurtulmuş stated that bringing the legal reports to the parliamentary agenda could lead to new political tensions, and emphasized that the CHP should hold its congress at an appropriate time to reaffirm the will of its delegates.

Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş made assessments regarding the draft immunity reports prepared about CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and some CHP members. Kurtulmuş, noting that many reports are pending in the Parliament, highlighted that the issue could lead to political consequences. Kurtulmuş also stated that the CHP should hold a congress without delay to reassert the will of its delegates.

“MANY REPORTS PENDING IN PARLIAMENT”

Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş made statements regarding the request to prepare immunity reports for CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and some CHP deputies. Speaking to Nefes columnist Aytunç Erkin, Kurtulmuş noted that many reports are currently pending in Parliament and most of them have not been brought to the agenda.

Kurtulmuş said, “There are many reports in Parliament even now. None of them are naturally brought to the agenda.”

Pointing out that the debates over the reports could yield different political outcomes, Kurtulmuş emphasized that the process should be handled carefully.

Kurtulmuş stated, “The report issue opens the door to a completely different political game. So, let’s see. The process has not reached that point yet,” signaling that the reports are not expected to be brought to Parliament’s agenda in the short term.

CALL FOR CONGRESS IN CHP

In his statements, Kurtulmuş also touched upon the congress debates within the CHP, saying that reasserting the will of delegates is important for the party to overcome the ongoing process.

Responding to the question “What is your expectation as the Parliament Speaker?” Kurtulmuş stated that the CHP should hold a congress as soon as possible, adding, “It is important for the CHP to reassert the will of its delegates and hold a congress at an appropriate time as soon as possible, in terms of political party law.”
