Nurettin Açıkalın, President of the Süper Lig club Kayserispor, reacted to his players at a press conference he held. Expressing that they will stay in the league, Açıkalın responded to the criticisms directed at him by saying, 'If anyone thinks they can do better, let them come, I'll hand over the keys today.'
Kayserispor, located in the relegation zone of the Trendyol Süper Lig and going through difficult times, held a press conference with Club President Nurettin Açıkalın.
"IF ANYONE SAYS THEY CAN DO BETTER, LET THEM COME, I'LL HAND OVER THE KEY"
President Nurettin Açıkalın, stating that the unsuccessful results were not related to money or his own management, said, "Whoever wants to take responsibility for this club, I will hand over the key to this club today. I criticize sporting success, I have no objection to any of these. I criticize them too. We give bonuses, we made salary payments. We are well below the Süper Lig average. There is no need to attribute the failure meaninglessly to salaries. There are matches where we played unluckily, there are matches we lost in the last minute. If this team had 6 more points today, would we be talking about these things? If anyone says they can do better, let them come, I'll hand over the key today."
"IF SUCCESS WILL COME WITHOUT ME, I AM READY TO LEAVE"
Açıkalın, stating that he gave over 300 million TL to the club and is the only president who gave money without expecting anything in return, said, "The presidency of Kayserispor is a duty. A general decision is made in the city, and someone is asked to make sacrifices to do it. It was like this before me, and it will be like this after me. I think it's impossible to leave the presidency happily anyway. We think we have made sacrifices, we think we have made efforts for the future of this club. Financially, a club that was dealing with 20-25 million Euro transfer bans when we first arrived has now opened the transfer board. We currently have a debt of 100 thousand Euros."
"I ALSO CRITICIZE THIS LACK OF SPIRIT"
Nurettin Açıkalın, who reacted to the unwilling attitudes shown by his players; "Fans may not tolerate failure, they are right, they criticize, they are right. I am open to constructive criticism, criticism that is not insulting. These players are not this, I also criticize this lack of spirit. If these kids will play when I leave, I will leave. I am the only president in this city who gives money without expecting anything in return. What happened that these were forgotten so quickly? I cannot play football, I cannot be a manager. I know one thing, I try not to let harmful people in here. I do not get involved in shady dealings. The club is here, the city is here. We are open to all kinds of suggestions. If someone says 'I am becoming president', I will immediately give the key to our governor, our mayor. I am the one who is most upset about this failure. It is true, there is a failure. From now on, I have no chance to interfere with the players, the coach. The players should pull themselves together. They should pull themselves together in the remaining weeks' matches. I have hope for my team."
