18.03.2019 12:20

Council wrote letter to New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

The Women Consultative Council of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned the terror attacks on mosques in New Zealand that left at least 50 people dead.

"We […] strongly condemn the atrocious and appalling terrorist attack perpetrated against innocent Muslims during their Friday prayers at Masjid Al Noor and Linwood Masjid Mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand," the council said in a letter to New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

The council offered condolences and expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and wished recovery to the wounded.

It stressed that terrorism has no religion, and called for action against intolerance, racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia.

The council also praised the New Zealand's prime minister for "strong leadership" and for seeking unity, following the incident.

"We commend you for the strong leadership you have shown in these difficult circumstances, seeking to unite rather than divide, and express our hope and trust that under your able guidance, the ensuing process will be conducted and finalized in fairness."

A total of 51 people were killed when a terrorist opened fire on worshippers during Friday prayers at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques in Christchurch. -
