REAL MADRID STARTED THE MATCH EFFECTIVELY
In the final of the tournament held in Athens, the capital of Greece, Olympiacos faced Real Madrid. Real Madrid, who started the match effectively and hit 3 three-pointers, led 15-3 in the 4th minute. Olympiacos quickly recovered with a 9-0 run, reducing the deficit to 3 points in the 6th minute: 12-15. The Spanish team, widening the gap especially with fast-break baskets, finished the first quarter 26-19 ahead, with Lyles scoring 13 points.
OLYMPIACOS HEADED TO THE LOCKER ROOM AHEAD
In the second quarter, Real Madrid extended the lead to double digits in the 11th minute with a three-pointer by Abalde: 19-29. Olympiacos, not giving up and forcing the Spanish representative to take outside shots, took the lead in the 18th minute thanks to scoring contributions from players coming off the bench: 38-36. In the remaining time, both teams hit baskets from beyond the three-point line, and the Greek team went to the locker room leading 46-44 after Peters scored from under the basket as time expired.
THE TIGHT CONTEST CONTINUED IN THE THIRD QUARTER
The second half of the match started with back-and-forth baskets. In this mostly balanced period, Real Madrid, who trailed 54-50 in the 24th minute, went on a 10-0 run to make it 60-54 in the 27th minute. Although Olympiacos reduced the deficit to 1 point, the Spanish team, scoring from the free-throw line, finished the third quarter ahead 65-61.
OLYMPIACOS ARE CHAMPIONS
The fourth and final period was filled with great excitement. At the start of the quarter, both teams hit shots from outside. In this period, which featured a neck-and-neck struggle with the lead changing hands several times, Olympiacos took control in the 35th minute and built an 8-point lead with 36 seconds left: 88-80. Real Madrid, capitalizing on the Greek team's mistakes and scoring consecutive baskets, failed to take advantage of an opportunity to tie the game with 13 seconds remaining, and Olympiacos won the match 92-85 to claim the championship.
