On November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, women in Istanbul found police barricades in front of them. The women's gathering was intervened by the police, and there were arrests. The November 25 Women's Platform called for a gathering at Tünel in Beyoğlu as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The Istanbul Governorship announced that events were banned in the Beyoğlu district, and many streets and avenues in the area were closed off with barriers. Metro stations near Beyoğlu were closed to operation by the decision of the Governorship. INTERVENTION AT GALATA TOWERWhile extraordinary measures negatively affected local shopkeepers, tourists, and citizens throughout the day, around 7:00 PM, a group of women shouted slogans like "You Will Never Walk Alone" near Galata Tower. The police intervened against the women and journalists trying to document the events. There were arrests. MARCH TOWARDS KARAKÖY AND POLICE INTERVENTIONAs the number of women in the area increased, slogans continued such as "We Will Not Be Silent, We Will Not Be Afraid, We Will Not Obey," "We Will Not Leave the Streets or the Squares," "Oppression Will Not Deter Us," "Long Live Our Organized Struggle," "Open, Open, Open the Barricade," "Femicide is Political." While the women marched towards Karaköy with these slogans, the police attempted to disperse them with a harsh intervention. Journalists trying to document those moments also faced police intervention. THEY GATHERED AT KARAKÖY PIERAfter a while, the women who gathered at Karaköy Pier continued their protest by chanting slogans like "The World Will Shake If Women Are Free" and "Raise, Raise, Raise Your Voice, Raise," while reading the names of the murdered women.
