Ninety-one suspects detained in the "Chain" operation conducted as part of the investigation into the employees of the Mersin Customs Administration have been arrested.
In coordination with the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, following the operation carried out by the Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch on December 19, eight more suspects were detained after 114 suspects were caught. Ten of the suspects were released after their procedures at the police station, while 112 suspects brought to the courthouse were referred to the peace criminal court with a request for arrest.

The court has arrested 24 customs officials, including the free zone customs director and the deputy customs director, while 67 customs consultants were also arrested, and 21 suspects were released under judicial control. The 91 arrested suspects were sent to prison.
DETAILS OF THE OPERATION
It was announced by the Ministry of Interior that 114 suspects were detained in the "Chain" operation conducted on December 19 against the employees of the Mersin Customs Administration.
According to the details disclosed by the Mersin Police Department, after it was determined that the officials operating at the Mersin International Port were receiving bribes from business owners, it was found that customs consultants and employees were giving bribes to customs officials for each transaction as a result of technical and physical surveillance. The bribery relationship was established to follow a certain tariff and routine, and it was determined that a fixed fee was taken for transactions without any irregularities, while bribes were taken in foreign currency depending on the nature of the irregularity.

Among those detained were customs officials, consultants, and employees, and it was reported that 128,500 lira, 40,355 dollars, 42 grams of gold bars, 18 bracelets, a gold belt, 2 gold chains, reşat gold, 64 full, 11 half, and 63 quarter gold coins, 3 unlicensed pistols, 371 cartridges, 9 watches, and narcotic pills were seized.
