The terrorist organization PKK has been cornered in Europe. A significant blow was dealt to the terrorist organization, which has been able to carry out its activities in Europe with ease until now, by the British police. As part of an ongoing investigation, the British police conducted operations at numerous addresses. In the investigation targeting activities suspected of being linked to the PKK, 6 people, including 2 women, aged 23, 27, 31, 56, 59, and 61, were detained.
AMONG THE ADDRESSES SOUGHT IS THE KURDISH COMMUNITY CENTER
Among the addresses sought in the investigation is the Kurdish Community Center located in the Haringey area of North London, and the police reported that the examination at the community center could take up to 2 weeks. The London police also shared that the areas where searches were conducted were closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. It was also announced to the public that the number of police and patrols in the searched areas would be increased.
"WE WILL NOT TOLERATE"
In a statement, Acting Counter-Terrorism Director Helen Flanagan reported that the operation was carried out following a significant investigation into activities believed to be linked to the PKK. Flanagan stated, "I hope the arrests made are a sign that we will not tolerate any terrorist activity and that we will take action in cases where we believe communities in the UK or elsewhere are harmed."
Flanagan emphasized that the operation aimed to protect everyone, especially the Turkish and Kurdish communities living in the country, and added:
"I urge anyone who feels they are being influenced or targeted by individuals linked to the PKK to contact us. We are aware that closing the community center may cause discomfort. The police will work as quickly as possible, but the allegations are very serious, and therefore care must be taken to identify and collect as much evidence as possible."
PKK OPERATION IN LONDON
According to official sources, the UK has been conducting operations against the PKK, which it recognizes as a terrorist organization, in areas such as financing terrorism, combating money laundering, and recruitment. In this context, relevant information was regularly communicated to UK authorities by Turkish officials, and after the completion of the file, UK authorities decided to carry out an operation. The UK Police Counter-Terrorism Unit conducted a raid on an association used by PKK members under the name "Community Center" in Haringey, London.
The purpose of the raid was stated to be investigating the relationship with the PKK and possible fundraising/support activities, and as a result of the raid, 6 people connected to the Community Center were detained. It was reported that these individuals are being held at a police station in London.
PKK GROUPS IN PANIC
Sources indicated the significance of the raid on the association, which is traditionally one of the extensions of the PKK, and the fact that the association would be closed for two weeks for examination, assessing that PKK groups in the UK are in a state of panic.
