A massive dust storm flanked by gusty winds hit the southern port city of Karachi, killing at least 5 people and injuring over 30, officials and local media reported on Monday.
The dust storm uprooted trees, utility poles and signboards in different parts of the city apart from causing roofs of several houses and schools to collapse.
According to rescue officials, multiple road accidents were also reported, mainly from main Karachi-Quetta highway, killing at least three people and injuring several others. Two others were killed in roof-collapse incidents, they added.
Dr. Seemi Jamali, head of the emergency services at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, told reporters some 36 injured people were brought to the hospital on Monday.
The meteorological department has forecast another dust storm accompanied by heavy rains on Tuesday. -
