Pakistan To Hold General Election On July 25

26.05.2018 23:58

5 year constitutional term of parliament due to end on May 31.

Pakistan will hold a general election on July 25 as President Mamnoon Hussain approved the date, according to the country's official news agency APP on Saturday.

The five-year constitutional term of Pakistan's government and the parliament is due to end on May 31, after which interim government will take over to hold the elections.

As per the Constitution, the prime minister and the opposition leader in the National Assembly mutually finalize the name of the caretaker prime minister after presenting suggestions.

However, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party and the opposition leader have so far failed to build a consensus on the name for the interim premier.

The elections for provincial assemblies and the country's lower house of the parliament will be held on the same day.

Earlier this week, the ECP had sent a summary to the president proposing holding of the 2018 general elections on any date between July 25 and 27. -
