In the video taken by two young women, it was noted that drivers drove their vehicles towards pedestrians, and deterrent traffic fines from abroad were cited as examples.
In the İskenderun district of Hatay, citizens wanting to use a pedestrian crossing rebelled against drivers not obeying the right-of-way rule. Two young women, recording the moments with a cell phone camera, reacted to the disregard for traffic rules, stating that drivers were driving vehicles over pedestrians.
Pedestrians trying to cross a busy street in the district center had a hard time due to drivers' disregard for the rules. Citizens noted that another pedestrian tried to stop vehicles by pointing with their hand and barely managed to cross the road, emphasizing that there is no safety even at pedestrian crossings.
"LOOK HOW THEY PACKAGE YOU ABROAD"
The young woman, who narrowly escaped danger repeatedly at the pedestrian crossing and recorded the moments second by second, reacted to the drivers' insensitivity with these words:
"This is a huge pedestrian crossing. Drivers must stop at a pedestrian crossing. Don't speed through the crossing, don't drive over us, understand we are pedestrians. I wish we had rules like abroad, but we definitely don't. Try driving over a pedestrian there, see how they package you!"
Another citizen in the video cited heavy traffic fines in Dubai as an example, stating that deterrent sanctions are necessary to prevent rule violations.
CAMERA STARTS RECORDING, TRAFFIC RULES REMEMBERED
The most striking detail in the footage was the "camera effect." The young woman noted that drivers, upon noticing the recording, suddenly started stopping at the pedestrian crossing, highlighting that they normally ignore the rules. The citizen expressed her anger, saying, "They are driving us to death here. Just because I started the video, they are all stopping one by one. Normally, they never stop. It's a pedestrian crossing, brother, you have to wait."
Local residents are demanding that authorities increase inspections at pedestrian crossings and impose necessary penalties on drivers who violate the rules.
