ERDOĞAN CALLS ON RTÜK TO ACT

Expressing that violence against women has been normalized in the television and cinema industry for the sake of ratings, President Erdoğan stated, "Our cinema and series industry must now get its act together. It shows that violence against women is being normalized for the sake of ratings. Series that should inform the society play a bad role in encouraging violence. Great responsibilities fall on screenwriters, producers, and RTÜK," he said.

Recently, a scene depicting violence against women in the series "Distant City," broadcast on Kanal D, drew great reactions. Questions such as "How can you make this a rating material?" were raised on social media regarding that scene.

Nearly 50,000 of our Palestinian brothers have been martyred to date. 80% of them are innocent children and women. The biggest victims of the attacks are again women and children. Netanyahu brutally kills the elderly, babies, women, and children every day. The genocide network has been advancing step by step under the silent gaze of the world for 14 months. In the face of this barbarism, the honorable women of Palestine set an example for all women with their noble stance and faithful hearts under the bombs. We are in complete solidarity with you. When it comes to words, those who pose as lions in democracy have been playing the three monkeys for 14 months when it comes to these perverse currents, but we will never leave you alone. We will continue to loudly present the truths on every platform to stop this genocide. I salute the brave women of Palestine with respect and pray for patience from my Lord. Turkey has a very strong and widespread civil society network. Our foundations, associations, and volunteer organizations are carrying out extraordinary work. Fighting against violence towards women is at the forefront of these efforts.

"VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS A BETRAYAL TO HUMANITY"

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all my brothers and sisters who support the fight against violence towards women. Today, our ministry and government have made significant contributions and efforts regarding critical issues related to women, especially violence. Violence against women is a betrayal to humanity. Violence against women is an unacceptable vandalism. Everyone who engages in this betrayal and applies violence must face the punishment they deserve; ensuring this is the primary duty of the state. Since we took office with this understanding, we have taken many revolutionary steps. We have launched countless projects that will strengthen women's rights and support them. The law on the protection of the family and the prevention of violence against women was the most important regulation. We have crossed the most critical threshold, and our state's zero tolerance policy towards violence has reached a strong level.

"THE 'CONVENTION GIVES LIFE' SLOGAN HAS NO MEANING"

The 'Istanbul Convention' slogan has no meaning other than being an ideological battle tool for marginal groups. The opposition's virtual discussions have no basis. The 'Convention gives life' slogan has no meaning. They either do not know or do not want to see the dire situation in Western countries. The European Parliament accepted the directive for combating violence against the family in the middle of this year.

"THERE IS NO COUNTRY IN EUROPE THAT MAKES INDEPENDENT LAWS LIKE TURKEY"

Half of the countries in the Istanbul Convention have made reservations to the text. Turkey is the only country that has comprehensively addressed the issue with its legislation under Law No. 6654. There is no other country in Europe that makes independent laws in this regard besides Turkey. Contrary to the opposition's claims, there is no causal link between withdrawing from the convention and violence. This step has not diminished or weakened our determination to fight against all forms of violence. As Turkey, we have made legal regulations both before 2011 and after 2020. Those who slander us are also hiding the realities that our governments have implemented. Violence against women has been made a qualified crime under the AK Party government. Steps have been taken to categorize this crime, such as treating crimes committed against divorced spouses as if they were committed against married spouses. We are implementing measures such as electronic bracelets. It is not the convention but the laws that give life. We are diligently following the action plans we have prepared. With our centers, guest houses, and victim support system, we have reached a respected place in this field.

"WE HAVE RESTORED THE RIGHTS OF THE VICTIMS OF FEBRUARY 28"

We have also fought against wrong behaviors that have no religious or cultural basis. We have removed the barriers that hinder women's education. We have addressed the grievances of our girls who could not go to university or were turned away at the door. We have put an end to the oppressions that the opposition calls lies. We have restored the rights of tens of thousands of victims of February 28 who were dismissed from public service. We achieved all our gains despite the CHP's anti-women policies. We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure that our women do not face similar bullying. We will patiently walk until we reach a violence-free Turkey Century that does not allow violence against women.

"THOSE WHO TURN A BLIND EYE TO RAPE AND EXECUTIONS"

If no sentence is uttered regarding those who threaten women's lives, those who abduct our girls to the mountains, and those who send them to death and murder, it means there is a great hypocrisy at play. Those who turn a blind eye to incidents ranging from rape to execution in the separatist organization cannot make women their issue. Why does the CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, while rushing to DEM, withhold a greeting from the grieving Diyarbakır Mothers?

When will the CHP confront its fascist past, and when will it reconcile with the values of the nation? The CHP's theater of reconciliation has also been completely shelved. We do not take seriously those who talk about freedom while standing behind the separatist organization. Those who do not raise their voices against the woman-hating terrorist barons in Kandil cannot pass this test.

"MANY PROBLEMS ARE DEEPENING WITH ALCOHOL AND GAMBLING"

Alcohol and gambling addiction is a significant factor in cases of violence. We cannot prevent violence against women as long as we do not stop alcohol and drug addiction, which threatens the future of our children. Research clearly shows that there is a direct link between them. It is a fact that domestic violence, behavioral disorders, and many problems are deepened by alcohol and gambling addiction. One of the first activities of the municipalities that changed hands after March 31 was events that encourage alcohol consumption. We cannot accept the imposition of the fascist practices of the 40s on the nation. We do not hesitate to express our reaction on the grounds of law and democracy. We have done this in our political life that spans half a century. We did not interfere with the lifestyle of our people. We did not allow anyone to impose on us or to teach this nation a lesson. We neither took anyone's rights nor accepted the violation of our own rights. We act with the same sensitivity.
