EXTENDED GET-WELL WISHES
According to a statement from the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, President Erdoğan conveyed his get-well wishes to US President Trump regarding the attack attempt that occurred at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington.
President Erdoğan stated that he sees the incident as a heinous act against democracy and press freedom, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured security officer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
An armed attack occurred at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump. Trump, attending the dinner for the first time during his presidency, was quickly escorted out of the event area at the hotel by security forces after shouts and gunshots were heard in the hall.
US President and his wife Melania Trump were swiftly removed from the hall by security forces, and the armed assailant was apprehended. A Secret Service agent was injured in the incident.
The suspect of the armed attack at the dinner organized by the White House Correspondents' Association in the US was identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, a teacher in California.
