The Deputy Chairman of the MHP and Kayseri Member of Parliament İsmail Özdemir submitted a bill to amend the Special Consumption Tax Law to ensure that vehicles aged 25 and over are recycled and to encourage the purchase of environmentally friendly "domestically produced" vehicles in their place. "WE FORESEE EXEMPTION FROM SCT"Regarding the issue, Özdemir shared on his social media account, "With the bill we submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, we foresee exemption from SCT for new vehicles to be purchased, provided that they are produced in Turkey, in order to ensure that vehicles with models from before the year 2000 (25 years and older) are recycled and to encourage the purchase of more environmentally friendly and safer 'domestically produced' vehicles. May it be beneficial." he stated. Özdemir also included the justification of the bill in his post. The justification included the following statements: "According to TÜİK, the average age of vehicles registered in traffic is calculated as 14.5 years. 25% of the number of vehicles consists of vehicles older than 21 years. EMPHASIS ON HARM TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMYOlder vehicles can be a burden in terms of repair and maintenance costs, while on the other hand, they can pose a danger that may lead to loss of property and life in traffic. Additionally, they harm both the environment and the economy. In this sense, recycling vehicles older than 25 years is significant in terms of economic, environmental pollution, and transportation safety. "FOR A ONE-TIME EXEMPTION"Encouraging the recycling of vehicles aged 25 and older by exempting those who recycle their vehicles from the Special Consumption Tax for a one-time purchase of new vehicles, provided that they are produced in Turkey, will be an important development in this context. The proposal aims to renew vehicles that are 25 years and older, reduce imports in this scope, prevent fuel waste, and prevent environmental pollution."
