The Ministry of Interior announced that Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak from the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) and Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül from the Republican People's Party (CHP) have been suspended from their duties due to "terrorist affiliations." Following the appointment of trustees, protests began in front of the municipality in Tunceli.

The Ministry of Interior announced that the mayors of Tunceli and Ovacık have been suspended from their duties. In a statement made by the ministry, it was reminded that Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for the crime of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization" under the case number 2022/99 of the Tunceli 1st Heavy Penal Court. The statement emphasized that Konak is under investigation for the crime of "propagandizing for the PKK/KCK terrorist organization" in the investigation file numbered 2024/1146 of the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and it was stated that "Cevdet Konak has been suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393." In this context, it was reported that Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu has been appointed as the Acting Mayor of Tunceli in accordance with Articles 45 and 46 of the Municipal Law No. 5393. In the statement regarding Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül, it was noted: "Due to receiving a sentence of 6 years and 3 months in prison for the crime of 'being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization' under the case number 2022/99 of the Tunceli 1st Heavy Penal Court, Mustafa Sarıgül has been suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393. In accordance with Articles 45 and 46 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, Ovacık District Governor Hüseyin Şamil Sözen has been appointed as the Acting Mayor of Ovacık by the Tunceli Governorate."
